Kayaking is America's fastest growing sport. Tilghman Island and its hinterland offer sheltered coves and creeks as well as protected wildlife sanctuaries. Kayak and canoe enthusiasts simply put their boats in the water and paddle out to explore these hidden by-ways where waterfowl abound.
Local rentals of kayaks and canoes are available, as is coaching for beginners.
Other rentals include sailboats, jet boats, fishing and crabbing gear….even pleasure boats!
Biking is perhaps the best way to efficiently get the feel and taste of this unique part of the Eastern Shore. The whole Easton, St. Michaels, Tilghman Island, Oxford region is a magnet for bicyclists who take advantage of the flat terrain, wide shoulders of local highways, and relatively light traffic to get their exercise and see the country at the same time.
Sinclair House is listed as "biker-friendly" in local bicycling newsletters and we offer to place bicycles under cover in a locked area for guests requesting such facilities. Bikes are available for rent locally.
Hiking and Jogging are popular on Tilghman Island. The island is only three square miles and can be covered easily during a morning or afternoon. The communities of Fairbank and Black Walnut Point on the southerly end of the island are worth visiting, as are Dogwood Harbor - with its last remaining fleet of skipjack sailing craft - and Knapps Narrows with its landmark drawbridge.

Cruising on the Chesapeake offers an opportunity to get out on the Bay and catch the fresh breezes. During the season several captains take on visitors for cruises of two hours or more, either under sail or by motor. Visitors can taste a bit of history by boarding the
Rebecca T. Ruark, a skipjack dating from the 19th Century, whose two hour sailings come complete with commentary by a 4th generation skipjack captain.

Charter fishing has always been a popular activity on Tilghman Island. The original establishment of Sinclair House as a fishing camp house is testimony to that fact. Several captains offer charter trips including bait and tackle for half-day or full day trips to their favorite fishing spots on the Chesapeake. Birding devotees will find the Black Walnut Point birdlife sanctuary worth a look. In mid 2003, Sinclair House guests returned from a bicycle jaunt there to exclaim they spotted a Bald Eagle nesting with two chicks.
Photographing the local scene can be rewarding. Scenes of "watermen" bringing to land the bounty of the Chesapeake --- oysters, crabs, rockfish --- depending on the season, provide a constant source of interest. And the spectacular sunsets framed with fishing craft in the foreground will be wonderful souvenirs of your visit to the Chesapeake region.
Golfing enthusiasts will find three golf courses within a 30 minute drive, one of them designed by Pete Dye. (If you wish to play a course during your visit, please notify us ahead of time for reserving tee-off time.)
Sightseeing visitors will find plenty of historical buildings and residences in nearby St. Michaels and Oxford. Both towns boast architectural treasures from other centuries, many designated as monuments. Guided walking tours are available by special arrangements. St Michaels is well known for its distinctive shops and markets.

Both towns also feature a range of eating possibilities --- everything from quick lunches to more formal high-class dining establishments with innovative cuisine and the finest of wines.
A "don't miss" experience is taking the Bellevue-Oxford ferry. This is the oldest continuous ferry service in the United States, having begun in 1683.

Kicking back, relaxing... or just getting away for a while are what many look for in a Getaway such as Sinclair House B&B. You can just sit on our enclosed porch and read….or view one of our scores of movie cassettes on your room's VCR, or tune into sports and HBO via satellite TV.
Whichever activity - or lack thereof - you choose, the fresh air is conducive to building a healthy appetite. And a number of local dining establishments on the Island - or just across the bridge - offer freshly caught seafood and other well prepared dishes.
